A cooperative effort to
raise money for local
charities took place on
May 2nd at
WingHaven Country Club
with the 2nd
annual WingHaven
Golf-a-thon. The all
day golf marathon,
sponsored by Nordyne
Corporation and Goddard
School for Early
Childhood Development,
allowed golfers a chance
to play all the golf
they could play on the
Nicklaus Design layout.
The marathon of golf
began at 8am with
approximately 35 players
putting their golf ball
in the air. Eleven
hours later golfers were
still playing hard,
committed to finishing
as many holes as
daylight made possible.
The real winners of the
2005 Golf-a-thon were
the event’s
beneficiaries, JDRF,
Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society, Fulfilling
Dreams and the O’Fallon
Family YMCA. Each
worthy cause walked away
with $2,200 in
contributions.
Dustin Ashby, General
Manager of WingHaven
Country Club and
catalyst behind the
WingHaven Golf-a-thon
thought the event was
another success, “We had
a great day for golf and
wonderful support from
area residents and
businesses. It’s always
nice to be able to give
back to the community
you live in and to do so
while sharing a day on
the golf course with
friends makes it that
much more special.” |
