| (O'Fallon, MO) - The state of Missouri's top amateur
golfers will compete for the state's top amateur
championship on the Nicklaus Design layout at WingHaven
Country Club in 2008. A field of 144 golfers will
earn a position in the championship. The majority
of the field will be determined from local qualifying
events held throughout the state with a select few
players earning exemptions into the championship.
The field of 144 will participate in a 36-hole stroke
play qualifying over two days (Tuesday, Wednesday) with
the low 64 players advancing to a single elimination
match play tournament. Past champions of the
Missouri State Amateur include well known names such as
John Daly, Tom Watson, Jim Colbert, Bob Cochran and Don
Bliss.
"Hosting the Missouri State Amateur will add yet
another feather in our cap," commented WingHaven Golf
Professional, Steve Sebastian. "I suspect many of
our club's better players will attempt to qualify for
the championship and for those that make it through
local qualifying, they should have a very nice home
course advantage."
